England opening batsman Zak Crawley has finally addressed a heated moment from the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. Indian captain Shubman Gill had accused Crawley and fellow opener Ben Duckett of arriving 90 seconds late to the crease, calling it time-wasting.

Tensions boiled over during the final moments of Day 3 at Lord’s when Crawley was struck on the gloves by Jasprit Bumrah and called for the team physio. This didn’t sit well with Gill, who angrily shouted at Crawley to “grow some f***** b***s!” accusing him of deliberately wasting time.

Zak Crawley Explains What Happened

Speaking to the media after Day 2 of the fourth Test, Crawley gave his side of the story. He said the delay wasn’t intentional, he simply waited in the dressing room until he saw the umpires walk out, which he believed was the usual routine.

“No, it wasn’t intentional. I sit in my spot until the umpires go out. I walked out when I saw them go. I wasn’t aware we were 90 seconds late, but fair enough,” Crawley said.

He added that he respected both the officials and the spirit of the game and saw the whole issue as a misunderstanding.

Interestingly, Crawley said he actually enjoyed the verbal back-and-forth with Gill. He explained that being under pressure and facing sledging is a part of cricket he thrives on.

"I've always enjoyed that part of cricket, to be honest, especially when you’re batting. There’s two of you against eleven and they’re desperate to get you out, and they’re chirping you,” he said.

After struggling in the previous Tests, Crawley made a strong comeback in Manchester. He scored 84 runs from 113 balls, including 13 boundaries and a six. He and Duckett put up a solid opening partnership of 166 runs, giving England a strong start in response to India’s 358.

At the end of Day 2 in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, England were all out for 358, the same score India posted. That means they’re currently tied and 133 runs behind India on overall progress in the series. However, England lead the five-match series 2-1.
