After smashing a match-winning hundred at Eden Gardens against the home team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Jos Buttler revealed that he took inspiration from MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli’s approach to chasing down totals in T20 cricket.

Amidst the hot and humid conditions of Kolkata, Buttler defied the odds and anchored a remarkable run-chase single-handedly, securing his second century of the ongoing IPL season and seventh overall in the tournament's history.

Buttler credits Dhoni, Kohli for his sensational knock

His sensational unbeaten innings of 107 not only propelled the Rajasthan Royals to a stunning victory but also entertained the cricketing world. His seventh IPL century guided RR to a thrilling two-wicket victory over KKR at Eden Gardens on Tuesday.

By emulating the perseverance and self-belief of Dhoni and Kohli, Buttler adopted their mindset to achieve what he considers his greatest IPL performance to date.

"Guys like Dhoni and Kohli, the way they stay till the end and keep believing, and I tried to do the same. That's something Sangakkara has told me a lot: there's always a breaking point. The worst thing you can do is not fight and give your wicket away. He just tells me to stay there, and at some point, the momentum will change,"  Jos Buttler said about his match-winning hundred.

RR clinched a victory from the brink of defeat against KKR, with Jos Buttler leading the way with the bat as his team successfully chased down the joint-highest total in league history.

After their last-over win on Tuesday, the Royals ascended to the top of the IPL 2024 points table, while KKR maintained their second position.
