India will lock horns against Australia for a three-match ODI series starting on October 19. Ahead of the crucial series, India's star player Axar Patel attended the pre-match conference, where he spoke in depth about the recent change of leadership.
For the unversed, the upcoming series will mark Shubman Gill's first ODI tour as India captain, replacing Rohit Sharma as the full-time skipper in the fifty-over format. The internet was divided following the massive decision, as fans were upset about sacking Rohit as the captain.

Nonetheless, in the latest events, Axar has expressed his thoughts on Gill becoming the captain and stated that the Punjab-based cricketer can grow as a skipper under Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
“That's a great example for Shubman. I think both Rohit and Virat are there. We are seeing the transition happening. And it’s good that the seniors are with the youngsters at this phase. The youngsters will know how to handle situations. The discussions in the dressing room are always about what to do and what not to do on the field,"Patel remarked when asked about Gill taking over the baton from Rohit.
It’s a perfect situation for Shubman Gill because he has both Rohit and Virat in the dressing room. For him to grow as a captain, this is a great opportunity. It’s a perfect mix of youngsters and seniors, and we will surely gel well,” he added.
Axar Patel in line ahead of Ravindra Jadeja for World Cup
At present, the decisions are being made in contention to 2027 World Cup and it seems that Axar Patel is ahead of Ravindra Jadeja to be in India's plan for the upcoming mega-event. Notably, Ravindra Jadeja is not part of India's squad for the Australia tour.
