On Friday, November 14, India locked horns against South Africa for the first Test of the two-match series. Shubman Gill and Temba Bavuma walked for the toss, and as usual, the luck didn't go in the hosts' favour, and Shubman Gill lost the toss.
South Africa opted to bat, but Gill was all smiles as if he accepted his fate that the luck gods are not on his side when it comes to the coin flip. Notably, Gill has come out to bat first on seven occasions and won just once.

The crowd also cheered for Gill when his turn came to speak with Ravi Shastri, the toss presenter, who also asked him about his toss luck. Unexpectedly, Gill reeked confidence and issued a warning to all WTC nations with his witty remark during the toss.
Notably, Gill stated that the next time he wins the toss will be during the WTC final.
Here is how the conversation went.
Ravi Shastri: Shubman, your luck with the toss just continues. It is becoming a habit
Shubman Gill: Yes, it is. Hopefully, the only toss I am going to win is in the WTC final
Gill assures fans of a WTC title with a witty remark
Notably, the only silverware missing in India's trophy cabinet is a WTC title. Team India reached the final twice in the first two editions but failed to cross the final hurdle.
The Shubman Gill-led side were all set to advance to their third WTC final in the last cycle, but a heavy loss against Australia crushed their hopes. However, seeing Gill's remark, it shows that WTC is top-priority within the dressing room and the entire squad are working hard to get their hands on the prestigious red-ball mace.
Talking about the WTC standings, then India are placed third with four wins in seven matches.
