Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) decision to retain the star pacer Mayank Yadav for INR 11 crore has backfired after the youngster failed to deliver on his potential post-injury. Returning from a back injury that sidelined him for LSG’s initial matches, Mayank managed just two wickets in two games with a dismal economy of 12.50.

Mayank Yadav's worst outing came against Punjab Kings, where he leaked 60 runs in four wicketless overs. LSG’s playoff hopes took another hit as they slumped to a third straight defeat, struggling to chase 237.

Ambati Rayudu Slams LSG Management for Rushing Mayank Yadav

Former India batter Ambati Rayudu criticised LSG’s handling of Mayank’s comeback slamming the franchise for showing desperation.

“I think it is a lack of confidence more than pace... LSG might have just shown some desperation to get him into the mix, maybe he is not ready yet,” Rayudu said.

Drawing parallels to Jofra Archer’s recovery, Rayudu emphasised the challenges of returning from injury. In another light, Rayudu defended Mayank Yadav's poor performance.

“Once you are coming back from an injury, it is really hard to bend your back and get back at your best," Rayudu added.

Overall, Mayank’s struggles in the last clash have compounded LSG’s woes, leaving their playoff dreams in jeopardy.

LSG’s Playoff Hopes Shake After Punjab Kings Defeat

For the unaware, Punjab Kings dominated LSG with Prabhsimran Singh’s explosive 91 off 48 balls powering them to 236/5. Arshdeep Singh then dismantled LSG’s top order, claiming 3/16, including key wickets of Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran.

Even with Badoni’s effort, LSG fell short at 199/7. With three games left, LSG must win all and rely on net run rate as their skipper too struggles to keep up with the team's failures this season.
