Swashbuckling Indian batter Sanju Samson recently named his cricketing idol during his conversation with legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Samson is in the limelight due to the rumours of a potential trade between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings that could see him shift his base to the Yellow Army. 

Samson Ignores Kohli, Dhoni; Names Rohit As His Idol

Amid the talks of his transfer from RR to CSK, Sanju Samson appeared in R Ashwin's podcast 'Kutti Stories' on his YouTube channel. During the conversation, Ashwin asked Samson to reveal his cricketing idol, to which the keeper-batter answered 'Rohit Sharma' without wasting time.

Sanju Samson: Idol... Hmm, that's a big question. Rohit Sharma. 

Samson's response showcased his admiration for Rohit Sharma, who is undoubtedly a treat to watch when he gets going. His fearless stroke-play, as well as his ability to play all around the park, make him a special player across all formats of the game. 

Sanju Samson Replaces Rohit Sharma As India's New T20I Opener

Legendary cricketer Rohit Sharma hung up his boots from T20 Internationals after leading India to the T20 World Cup title in 2024. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja also joined him, with the celebrated trio bidding adieu to the format. 

Sanju Samson replaced Rohit as India's new T20I opener, forming a fearsome batting duo with Abhishek Sharma. They have been outstanding at the top of the order, with Samson rejuvenating his T20I career with a string of impressive outings. 

Overall, he has amassed 861 runs at an average of 25.3 and a blistering strike rate of 152.4. Considering how he has performed in the format, it's highly likely that he will open the batting for India in the upcoming Asia Cup.
