Quinton de Kock, who is set to retire from ODI cricket after the ongoing 2023 World Cup, has been stacking up remarkable batting records in his farewell tournament. The dashing South African opener has already blasted four match-winning centuries for his nation, including tripe-figure knocks against semifinal contenders Australia and New Zealand.

A veteran of 152 ODIs for South Africa, Quinton de Kock has also taken up an unspoken leadership role in the team, to make sure he “gives his all” in his final 50-overs international assignment.

Quinton de Kock speaks on his leadership role

A couple of days after slapping a match-winning 114 against New Zealand in Pune, Quinton de Kock said that he is trying his best to help everyone out in the team. Having taken up a de facto leadership role as one of the senior members within the South African camp, the ODI outbound legend claimed that he wants to make sure that he gives his all in his final 50-overs international assignment for his country. While speaking on SuperSport, he said:

“I think because it’s probably my last one, so I’m just trying to give my all for the last time. Just trying to help out everyone where I can, who is ever going through experiences for the first time which I’ve been through. Being there to help the guys how to get through certain things, from mental point of view and strategically also.”

Quinton de Kock, who has registered 21 ODI centuries in his career, pounded four of those at the ongoing 2023 World Cup itself. The 31-year-old is currently leading the run-scoring charts of the tournament, having minted 545 runs from just seven innings.

Moreover, the cricketer is leading a second-placed Virat Kohli by more than 100 runs on the celebrated batting list. Considering his recent form, Quinton de Kock looks on course to either surpass or level up with Rohit Sharma’s tally of five tons in a single edition, and also looks a clear favorite to eclipse Sachin Tendulkar’s tournament haul for scoring most runs at a World Cup event.
