Rohit Sharma has taken over the captaincy of the Indian team in all the three formats since February 2022. From the beginning of his stint, the star cricketer made a thing clear that he wants to change the mindset of how the team plays. Rohit led from the front and exemplified 'aggressive cricket' for the rest of his team.

While India faced the heart-break of losing in the 2023 ODI World Cup tenure, it looked like the player was not ready to give the attitude he wanted to instill in the team. During the ODI World Cup, Sharma was seen going with a positive intent to set up the innings for his team. During the tournament he scored 597 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 125.94.

Despte losing the final to Australia, Rohit came out with the same intent during the 2024 T20I World Cup, which Indian ended up winning and ending their 13 year long drought of World Cup titles. During this tournament, Rohit scored 257 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 156.70. His aggressive batting in the semi-final against Australia will stay in the minds of Indian cricket fans for long.

Rohit Sharma wanted to transform the approach of his team towards the game

In the recent CEAT awards, Rohit was heard talking about the approach he wanted to bring in the team and how he wanted bring about a transformation in the mindset of the team. He also credited Jay Shah (BCCI Secretary), Rahul Dravid (the then Head Coach of India) and Ajit Agarkar (Chairman of selection committee of India) for backing him unconditionally.

"I think it was my dream to transform this team and not worry too much about the stats, the results and also to make sure that we create that environment where people can go out there and play freely without thinking too much and that's what was required." - Rohit Sharma said.

"I got a lot of help from my, to be honest, three pillars which are Mr Jay Shah, Mr Rahul Dravid, and Chairman of Selector (Ajit Agarkar). That was very critical for me to do what I did and not to forget the players who came in at different points in time and helped the team to achieve what we achieved today" - He further added.

The Indian captain will be next seen in action during the home Test series against Bangladesh. The Indian team are also currently gearing up to play the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 under Sharma's leadership.
