Chennai Super Kings (CSK) poor batting display against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 43rd of the IPL has drawn sharp criticism from former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag. He did not hold back from criticising the team’s approach and important decisions.

Virender Sehwag Criticises Ravindra Jadeja Batting

Talking to Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag particularly targeted veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. It is important to note that batting at number 4, Jadeja managed just 21 runs off 17 deliveries. The CSK star has struggled with the bat this season and has made 166 runs in 9 matches with a strike rate of 125.75 so far.

"Wasn't I saying that I feel like going home midway through the tournament. CSK's batters are also perhaps thinking that way. Their batters are wondering when will they get back home? When will the tournament end? At least one of them should have taken responsibility. Jadeja has got a useless strike rate, but at least try to stay out there till the 15th or 18th over. The rest of the batters can then play around him," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

Sehwag also expressed his displeasure over CSK's decision-making with the batting order. He specifically questioned the move to send all-rounder Sam Curran in at No.3. The former cricketer also stated that he believes South African youngster Dewald Brevis should have played at no 3.

"I can't understand what Sam Curran is doing at No.3 in this line-up. He has played up the order for sure, he has batted No.4 in ILT20, and he has played that role intelligently. But, in this line-up, when you have Brevis, play him at No.3. The Dube can come in next, followed by Jadeja, Sam Curran, and Deepak Hooda. They are missing Ruturaj Gaikwad in this line-up, he used to consistently make runs in Chennai," Sehwag added.

CSK Collapse Against SRH

The MS Dhoni-led CSK suffered five-wicket defeat against SRH that further dented their hopes to qualify for playoffs. Despite a brisk start provided by Ayush Mhatre, who scored 30 off just 19 balls, and a standout 42-run knock-off 25 balls by Brevis, the rest of the batting unit failed to capitalise.

SRH pacer Harshal Patel delivered a match-winning performance taking 4 wickets for 28 runs. In response, SRH chased down the target with ease, with significant contribution by Ishan Kishan. Followed by composed half-century partnership between Kusal Mendis and Nitish Reddy for the sixth wicket.
