In Match 48 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) hosted Mumbai Indians (MI), where the latter dropped points as they recorded their seventh loss of the season. Captain Hardik Pandya admitted that things are not looking for them to go ahead to the playoffs.

After being put in to bat by LSG, Mumbai started the innings terribly, finding themselves 28/4. However, thanks to some recovery work by Nehal Wadhera, Ishan Kishan and Tim David, they managed to finish with 144 on the board.

After a solid 62 (45) from Marcus Stoinis, Lucknow made it difficult for themselves towards the end but Nicholas Pooran managed to finish the game off with 4 balls to spare.

Pandya when asked to reflect on their effort with the bat in the early stages of the game, Hardik agreed that the start had an impact on the result.

"I think losing early wickets in powerplay is tough to recover from and we couldn't recover from there. There's not much pressure, you still have to watch the ball and hit. The wicket was good, we didn't lose wickets while going for the shots, we missed the balls and that is the kind of season this has been so far."

He also admitted that making it to playoffs is an uphill task from here but you have to keep learning from such games.

"You always look to fight no matter what. You want to win every game, yes [playoffs look difficult] but there are a lot of things that you can learn."

Hardik capped off the interview lauding Nehal Wadhera's effort with the bat in the last couple of games and asserted that the youngster has a great future ahead for both the MI and Indian team.

Up next, Mumbai Indians will return to their home and welcome Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, May 3.
