Another game, another outstanding show from Indian opener KL Rahul, who smacked a brilliant ton against the West Indies in the first Test in Ahmedabad. Opening the innings alongside Yashaswi Jaiswal, Rahul played a brilliant hand, as the former Indian head coach praised him.

Shastri dismisses claims about Rahul's batting position

It was a classic affair for the Indian opener KL Rahul, who breached a mammoth tally of 532 runs in the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy against the English side, where, in five Tests, he led the command with the bat. Continuing his form, Rahul came back stronger against the West Indian side in the first Test at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where he scored a blazing century.

Praising him on air was former Indian head coach and cricketer Ravi Shastri, who was quite affirmative of Rahul's form and his class as he busted some myths along the way.

Praising Rahul, Ravi Shastri gave a clear verdict that there have been certain misconceptions about the right-hander, who, according to many analysts and experts, has batted up and down the order, but that hasn't been the case, considering he has opened the innings for the Indian side in 94 innings out of a total of 110 innings.

"It's a misconception that he has gone up and down the order. Because if you actually look at his career, since that Test he opened (2016 against England), he has opened in 94 innings and there have been a total of 110 innings in that period," Shastri said on air during India-West Indies clash.

Further mentioning the fact that this turns out to be 90% of the time he has opened the innings, considering that people have mixed his shuffling in white ball cricket, which has made everyone confused. However, according to him, it remains a fact that Rahul has generally opened in Test cricket.

“So, it is 90 per cent of the time, he has opened the innings. It's because of the mix in white-ball cricket that you get a little confused,” he concluded.

Rahul scores 11th Test hundred in big win against West Indies

India, thanks to Rahul's 11th Test hundred, wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel's 125, and Ravindra Jadeja's 104*, scored 448/5 runs in the first innings after West Indies were knocked over for just 162.

Already behind the mammoth score, West Indies were then cleaned up for just 146 in the second innings, losing the game by an innings and 140 runs as India claimed the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In the second innings, Ravindra Jadeja came back strongly with the ball, picking four wickets. At the same time, Mohammed Siraj claimed three in the second, and his four in the first made it a total of seven wickets in the game as India dominated over the Caribbean side comfortably.
