'It Would Be A Goal To Reunite': After Hardik, Another Ex-Player Eyes Reunion With MI

Mumbai Indians are on cloud nine after reuniting with all-rounder Hardik Pandya ahead of the 2024 IPL season. Pandya moved to Gujarat Titans during the mega auction a couple of years ago and led the team to its maiden title in the inaugural year itself.

However, after two long seasons, Hardik Pandya returned to his home den. MI paid a hefty amount to get the all-rounder back from the Titans. But all's well that ends well.

Having said that, after Pandya, another ex-player vocalized his interest in rejoining the franchise in the imminent future. Former New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan revealed how he is training to rejoin forces with Mumbai Indians in a new and different role altogether.

Mitchell McClenaghan Wants To Return To MI In New Role

McClenaghan, who is currently playing Legends League Cricket with Manipal Tigers, spoke to Hindustan Times and opened up on his future plans. The Kiwi pacer revealed that he took up coaching courses after retirement as he intends to continue thriving in that aspect of the game.

Mitch McClenaghan further claimed that he wants to take up a coaching role in the future, and if it happens with Mumbai Indians, his former franchise, nothing gets better than that.

"Currently I am going through my coaching courses, trying to learn more about that side of the game because it's a sport that I enjoy and a sport that I would like to be involved in going forward. So whether that goes locally back home or globally within the T20 circuit, and who knows? I mean, MI would be a goal of mine to reunite with that franchise, for sure," McClenaghan said.

The pacer served for six years in blue colors after joining the force in 2015. He made pivotal contributions to MI's title run for three years. Across 56 games, Mitch scalped 71 wickets with a decent economy.

However, just like Hardik Pandya, McClenaghan was also released during the mega auction in 2020. Interestingly, Mitch wrote, "It's a see you later, not a goodbye" in his parting post.

Perhaps contesting for MI's bowling coach's role was always on the cards for Mitch McClenaghan. Currently, the job is being held by former Kiwi legend Shane Bond.
