South African batter Heinrich Klaasen has extended his apology to Mark Wood for his exuberant century celebration in South Africa's triumph over England. He candidly attributed his actions to pure emotion, which momentarily overcame him during the match.

While representing one's nation with a World Cup on the line, emotions often run high, even among elite professionals. In this instance, Klaasen, usually recognised for his composed demeanour, became the latest example of this phenomenon.

Following his century in the 47th over, achieved by smashing consecutive deliveries for a six and a four against Mark Wood, Klaasen passionately celebrated, roaring aggressively in Mark Wood's face.

Nonetheless, he later reconciled with the English seamer and acknowledged that he had allowed his emotions to carry him away in the heat of the moment. Both players shared a fist pump at the end of the over, symbolising their sportsmanship.

"I did go and apologise [to Wood] immediately and after the game," Klaasen said. "But he did hit me twice on the foot, which is hurting quite a bit. I'm sorry for him and the English boys but it's pure emotion that came out and sometimes it's difficult to control. I spoke to him after the game and hopefully everything is sorted,"  Heinrich Klaasen said after the game.

Klaasen was at his destructive best in Match 20 of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, a clash between South Africa and England at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on October 21.

He showcased an aggressive display of batting while occupying the fifth position in the lineup, smashing an impressive 109 runs off 67 balls. His innings included an impressive tally of 12 fours and four sixes, contributing significantly to South Africa's win.

This remarkable century was Klaasen's fourth in ODI cricket, marking his third century this year. Notably, this achievement was particularly special as it represented his maiden century in a World Cup game.

Furthermore, Klaasen became South Africa's fourth centurion in the ongoing tournament. Klaasen is making a substantial impact with the bat in the quest for the coveted World Cup title.
