After Shubman Gill was ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against South Africa, the team management believed in KL Rahul, and the stand-in captain delivered his absolute best in the previous two games. Even after India faced a heartbreaking defeat, KL Rahul’s excellence stunned fans.

In the previous two matches, he scored two elegant half-centuries, driving the team in the right direction. Dale Steyn has now dropped a bombshell, claiming KL Rahul would’ve smashed a massive ton if he had just walked in higher up the order.

Steyn predicts KL Rahul blasting a ton up the order

After taking the captaincy reins in Shubman Gill’s absence, KL Rahul is leading India from the front in the ongoing ODI series against South Africa. India began with a nail-biting win before a crushing loss slowed the momentum, but Rahul’s brilliance hasn’t dipped for a moment. Even after shifting from his usual opening slot, he came to bat in the middle order and smashed two consecutive half-centuries.

As Rahul is making waves with his current form, South African star Dale Steyn made a massive claim. Speaking on Star Sports, he said, KL Rahul would have easily brought up a huge hundred had he been sent in earlier in the batting lineup.

“He just knows how to do it. Again, if he batted 3 or if he opened the batting, I am pretty certain he would also go on to get the hundreds because of the lack of deliveries faced. But those positions are for other players, and he knows what his role is within this team. And both games so far, he has played fantastic innings,” he said.

Steyn stays mesmerised by KL Rahul’s cricketing brain

Over the years, KL Rahul has grabbed every role thrown at him, shifting batting positions, taking charge, and still delivering pure class. Apart from batting brilliance in the previous two matches, Rahul’s flawless captaincy remained one of the biggest weapons behind India’s glory. Reflecting on this, Dale Steyn praised Rahul’s leadership.

“A good, handy knock set by the skipper, KL, and he led his team well in the first one, managed to up the ante when he needed to. And again today, there was a period where he went semi-slow with Jadeja. South Africa bowled well in that little transitional period there, and the last over picked up the most expensive over of the innings,” he added.

After a heartbreaking defeat in the second ODI match against the Proteas, the upcoming third ODI match has become a decider. As a single victory in the upcoming match can seal the series for the winning side, both teams will step into the match with all intensity.
