Former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie has expressed his opinion that India should field their strongest possible fast bowling attack against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final. Gillespie emphasised the importance of selecting bowlers who can take 20 wickets in the match. India has included five pacers in their 15-member squad, including Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, and Jaydev Unadkat.

Three fast bowlers are expected to be part of India's playing XI, with Shami and Siraj being the preferred choices. The remaining pacers are competing for the final spot.

The Sydney-based ex-cricketer mentioned that India's bowling lineup would depend on the composition of their middle order, stressing the need for bowlers who can contribute to taking 20 wickets.

Here's what Gillespie stated

"It depends on what the makeup of the middle order looks like. If they feel they need more batting, they may go with Thakur. But ultimately, they’ve got to make a decision with their bowling attack — on what is the lineup that is most likely going to take 20 wickets."

"I would suggest they should pick their best three fast bowlers who they feel are going to make an impact and contribute to taking 20 wickets because Ashwin and Jadeja will contribute to taking those 20 wickets but they’ll also contribute really well with the bat."

While India secured the second position in the WTC points table, Gillespie acknowledged Australia as the top-ranked team in the table.

As the final approaches, the selection of the right bowling attack will be crucial for India's chances of success, and Gillespie's insights provide valuable considerations for the team's decision-makers.
