In a crucial Super Fours clash of Asia Cup 2023, India secured a berth in the final after emerging victorious against Sri Lanka by a margin of 41 runs.

Kuldeep's heroics secured India's berth in Asia Cup 2023 final

The thrilling match, which witnessed the Men in Blue defending a modest total of 213, was marked by spinner Kuldeep Yadav's standout performance.

In a post-match interaction with teammate Suryakumar Yadav, Kuldeep refrained from self-praise. Reflecting on his journey and his commitment to the national side, he remarked that while he has been investing significant efforts into his bowling over the past two years, representing India always acts as a driving force for him.

The wrist-spinner emphasized the importance of maintaining consistency and the weight of the reputation he has built over the years.

“I don’t want to say much. I am enjoying my bowling. I have worked a lot in bowling in the last two years. When you play for India, you are motivated. And then there is a game, you want to do well again. And then your name, you have been playing for so long, so you don’t want to drop the performance”  said Kuldeep.

Earlier in the day, having chosen to bat, India's openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill delivered a promising 80-run partnership. Yet, the Lankan spinners, led by Wellalage with a 5-wicket haul and ably assisted by Charith Asalanka's four dismissals, managed to restrict India to a modest total of 213.

Despite the low score, India's pacers dismantled the top order of the Sri Lankan batting lineup. With the hosts struggling at 99/6 by the 26th over, hopes of a revival were kindled by a gritty stand between Wellalage and Dhananjaya de Silva.

However, India's spin combination of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja rose to the occasion, with Yadav picking four crucial wickets and Jadeja claiming two. This ensured that Sri Lanka fell short, getting all out for 172, resulting in a 41-run victory for India and a ticket to the Asia Cup 2023 final.
