In the wake of Pakistan's recent defeat to their arch-rivals India in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, cricket pundits and enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the team's next move. Pakistan lost by seven wickets, and this setback has prompted former Pakistan cricketer to voice his concerns over the inclusion of leg-spinner Shadab Khan in the playing XI.

While acknowledging Shadab Khan's prowess as a bowler, former cricketer Shoaib Malik emphasised his struggles in recent matches. Drawing a comparison with Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who exhibited control over his sliders and googlies, Malik highlighted Shadab's inconsistency in landing his leg-spin deliveries accurately.

Here's what he said

“Shadab is no doubt is a very good bowler, but he is struggling. If you see Adam Zampa too was not able to land his leg-spin on the correct spot even though he has bagged four wickets against Sri Lanka in Lucknow on Monday, but his sliders and googlies were landing correctly."

Shadab's role in the team has been primarily as a bowler, and the team relies on him to deliver ten overs in an innings. However, his recent performance in the World Cup has raised doubts about his ability to meet these expectations.

In the matches against India and Sri Lanka, the all-rounder conceded runs without taking wickets, putting additional pressure on the Pakistani bowling attack.

“As far as Shadab is concerned, the Pakistan cricket team expect ten overs from him, not four or six. That’s why I feel he should be changed,” Malik further added.

With Pakistan gearing up to face Australia at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Karnataka on 20th October, all eyes are on Pakistan's skipper, Babar Azam, and the team management. The decision to include or exclude Shadab Khan will undoubtedly be a pivotal one, as Pakistan looks to regain their momentum in the ICC World Cup 2023.
