Former Indian cricketer, Aakash Chopra, has raised concerns over Shubman Gill's performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024. Despite being appointed as captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT) for the 17th season, replacing Hardik Pandya, Gill has failed to exhibit his renowned skills on the field.

While GT has managed to secure victories in two out of their first three league matches, Gill's individual performance has been underwhelming.

Chopra highlighted Gill's lackluster display despite having showcased promising form during India's Test series against England prior to the IPL.

Although Gill's innings contributed to India's success in the Test series, including a notable century in Vishakhapatnam, his IPL performance has been notably lacking, with the absence of a defining innings.

Chopra expressed his observations in his recent YouTube video, emphasizing Gill's failure to deliver a significant knock in crucial moments. Despite glimpses of potential against teams like Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, Gill has yet to deliver a standout performance.

Here's what Chopra said:

"We cannot move away from Shubman Gill and shouldn't either because it is the Ahmedabad ground. The love he has for the Ahmedabad pitch, I don't think he would have as much love for rajma chawal or Butter Chicken even though he comes from Punjab. However, he hasn't batted well thus far. Every time it has seemed like he is batting well, whether it was against Chennai in Chennai, or against Mumbai and Hyderabad, but the big knock is still missing."

Reflecting on Gill's Test series performance, Chopra noted the contrast between his success on the international stage and his struggles in the IPL. Gill's resilience in bouncing back from a poor outing in Hyderabad underscores his ability to respond to challenges.

However, Chopra questioned whether the added responsibility of captaincy has affected Gill's performance in the IPL.
