After many controversies surrounding India's head coach's performance in Test cricket and the recent mishap of South Africa's win at Eden Gardens, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has backed Gautam Gambhir.

Even after countless criticisms of the pitch curation demand and aggressive and bewildering strategies with the bat and the ball, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has ensured that they trust Gautam Gambhir & Co. for the betterment of the team.

Saikia backs Gambhir even after Test failure

Speaking to Revsportz, Devajit Saikia strongly backed Gambhir even after repeated losses. Under Gambhir, India has now lost four of their last six home Test matches with whitewashes from New Zealand. However, BCCI stated that they are barred from distinguishing anybody from their committed support.

“The BCCI has full confidence in our selectors and our coaching team, including the head coach and the players. We do not distinguish anybody. We give full support, and that is why they are doing well,” Saikia told RevSportz.

Saikia pays no heed to social media talks

Though not with red-ball cricket, Saikia reiterated that India has been successful in white-ball cricket with the Asia Cup 2025 and Champions Trophy under the team's name. Further, Saikia stressed the fact that social media is to be ignored, as Gambhir is doing his job well.

“As you were saying, if somebody is losing a match, there is flak on social media. That we are always ignoring, because at the same time, with the same team, we are winning the Champions Trophy, we are performing exceedingly well in the Asia Cup, we won the trophy, and we levelled the series against England in England,” Saikia added.

Now, as the second test between India and South Africa looms on November 22, Gautam Gambhir might face the wall again if the Guwahati pitch creates substantial trouble for the team in an attempt to choke the visitors with spin.
