The World Test Championship (WTC) finale is still a few days away but the preparation are going at a rapid pace as Australia and South Africa gear up to face each other in an epic battle at the mecca of Cricket - Lord's Cricket Stadium. This is Australia's second time in a WTC finale as they are the defending champions.

Smith's warning to the Proteas

Meanwhile, for the first time, the Proteas have entered the finale and will look to end their trophy drought. The job won't be an easy affair as the team have to go past the Aussies who relish playing in big matches. Australia have plenty of match-winners but none bigger than Steve Smith.

The veteran batter loves playing in England and has a stupendous record at Lord's. Ahead of the grand finale, Smith looked relaxed and was eager for the game to start right-away.

“I feel as strong as I’ve probably been since maybe 2014,” he said ahead of the final. “I walked out of my first hit (1st practice session three days ago) and told Ron (Australia coach Andrew McDonald), ‘Can we play tomorrow? I’m ready to go," as quoted by InsideSport.

Smith heads into WTC finale with loads of confidence

The man in-form, Smith heads into the finale with loads of confidence as he has 4 centuries in his last 5 Tests and looked in sublime touch against the Indian team in the last series. He has 10,271 runs in Test cricket but prior to the WTC final, he kept his bat away and recharged himself to get match-fit.

“I feel like my hips are probably as good as they’ve been in a long time. I feel like I’m getting a lot lower which I think will benefit me in the slips potentially. I made sure my bat was away (in New York). I had my golf clubs out and I was using them a little bit.

With Cameron Green returning, there is a great chance that Smith wouldn't have to open the innings for the Aussies and instead can bat at his usual number 4 spot.
