From a wonderful affair to a nightmare, India's ongoing Test series against England is in shambles after the poor showing in the ongoing fourth Test at Old Trafford. Jasprit Bumrah-led bowling attack failed to dismiss English batters on the third day, as England rallied to 554 for seven by stumps.

Jonathan Trott Unhappy With India's Performance In The Ongoing Test

After being 1-2 down in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar trophy between England and India, the visitors were expected to come back harder at the home side in the Old Trafford Test in Manchester.

However, the narrative flipped when the Shubman Gill-led Indian side failed to counter-attack against the English batting lineup, as the Three Lions mustered 554 for the loss of seven wickets by the end of the day. The bowling attack, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, failed to curb the batters, as the scoring rate was got progressively higher.

Now, former South African-born English cricketer and current head coach of Afghanistan, Jonathan Trott, has given his verdict on India's fortune in the ongoing Test match.

Speaking to broadcaster JioHotstar, while working as an expert, Trott mentioned that Bumrah was just unlucky, but he bowled decent enough lines in the game. However, the major trouble was from the other end, from where he received little to no support.

"Bumrah’s areas were pretty good, and his economy reflects that; he was just a bit unlucky. But the bigger issue is pressure from both ends. Bumrah benefits massively when there's support at the other end, and that wasn’t the case today. When you're slightly under par as a bowling unit, like India were, control from both ends becomes crucial," Trott spoke after Day 3 on JioHotstar.

The likes of debutant Anshul Kamboj and Mohammed Siraj couldn't pick more than a wicket, whereas Shardul Thakur was hardly to be seen. Not only did spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar grab two wickets apiece, but they were still unable to clean up the English batting lineup, who were on a rampage.

Game Out Of India's Grip, Believes Trott

Speaking further, Trott praised Shubman Gill as the leader and batter, further mentioning that he has given everything in the first three games. However, according to Trott, he is now wearing out, as India is without a specialist pacer in the form of Akash Deep, who is injured.

Trott picked Akash's unavailability as the reason why Gill's team is behind, as the former cricketer believes that this match is now out of India's grip.

"Shubman Gill is on his first trip to England as a batter and has also been thrown into the deep end as captain, carrying immense responsibility. He fought well across the first three Tests, but this game feels slightly beyond India, considering the challenges and resources. India’s bowling was hampered by Akash Deep’s unavailability, he picked up 10 wickets in the last Test but missed out due to injury," Trott continued.

By the end of day three, England were in a commanding position after Joe Root's blistering 150, while skipper Ben Stokes was still batting on 77*, alongside Liam Dawson, 21*, as the home side led by 186 runs by the end of Day 3.
