England captain, Ben Stokes might be out of action due to an injury however that does not stop him from heaping praises on fellow-teammate, Joe Root, after he achieved a historic feat during the on-going 1st Test between England and Pakistan.

On Wednesday, Joe Root scored an unbeaten half-century in Multan, and surpassed Alastair Cook to become England's leading run-scorer in Test cricket. This achievement comes just days after he scored his 34th Test century during the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord's and also became the scorer of highest number of tons in the longest format of the game for England.

Reflecting on this once in a lifetime achievement, Stokes praised Joe Root's remarkable selflessness, highlighting it as a key attribute that sets him apart.

“The selflessness that he has is an incredible attribute for him. He always puts the team first, and the fact that he’s got so many runs is just a bonus for us. He’s an incredible player. It’s going to take a long, long time for someone to come in and break that record. Just a great bloke. And an unbelievable feat to score that many runs," Stokes said. 

“But the non-selfishness that he possesses is one thing I think sets him above or sets him apart from anybody else who is going to play for England for a long time,” he added.

Joe Root on the Brink of Breaking Gavaskar's Record

Joe Root is closing in on his 35th Test century, poised to surpass Sunil Gavaskar’s record of 34 Test tons. Should Root reach the 100-run milestone, he will trail only behind Sachin Tendulkar’s remarkable tally of 51 Test centuries by 16. Currently, Root holds 34 centuries, placing him among the elite company of cricketing legends.
