Not every comeback makes headlines for the right reasons, as Karun Nair's long wait for his India return turned into a forgettable one. After being away from the national side for a long time, he secured a place in India’s squad for the ongoing Test series, but his struggle continued.

Karun Nair couldn’t leave a mark in the first two Tests, putting his place in the next match under the scanner. Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra feels it will be the final stage for the Karnataka batter to prove his worth.

Lord’s Test May Decide Nair’s Fate

After a massive win in the second Test against Ben Stokes and Co., Team India sets its eyes firmly on the third Test at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. Amidst some unforgettable performances, Karun Nair’s consecutive struggles in the previous two matches have become a massive concern.

Despite a stellar domestic run, Karun Nair’s return to the Indian side has fallen flat. With the third Test around the corner, his spot is under threat. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra warns him that it could be his final chance.

“Will you play Karun Nair or not? Will you keep Nitish Kumar Reddy or not? Now that is a big question. I would say give Karun Nair one more chance for sure, because this is now Karun Nair's final chance. He played earlier, scored a triple century, and then got dropped. It was slightly unfair at that time,” Chopra said.

Second Chance Slips Away From Nair

Back in India’s squad, Karun Nair’s comeback got off to a shaky start with a duck. Across two Tests, he managed just 77 runs at a poor average of 19.25, with a top score of 31 in the second game. Reflecting on this, Aakash Chopra pointed out that despite a second chance, he failed to utilize those opportunities.

“Then he scored a lot of runs and returned to the team. He asked cricket to give him a second chance. He went to Vidarbha, and cricket gave him a second chance. However, at some stage, that story will also end, and this is the match. In the first two matches, we have seen glimpses that he can bat well, but he hasn't scored too many runs,” he added.

After two Tests, the five-match Test series is hanging on an interesting margin of 1-1. Ahead of the upcoming Tests, starting on July 10, Team India got a massive boost with Bumrah’s return. With exceptional form, Shubman Gill and co. will try to continue their dream run.
