Former England cricketer, Sir Geoffrey Boycott, has aired his disappointment over England's "Bazball" during the ongoing second Ashes 2023 Test at the Lord's. The 82-year-old veteran's reaction went viral on social media following the team's poor performance during their first innings.

Boycott's facepalm moment turns spotlight on England's 'Bazball' approach

Boycott's frustrations were clearly illustrated through a facepalm reaction, caught on camera, when Harry Brook was dismissed by Australian skipper Pat Cummins from Mitchell Starc's delivery, right after his half-century. The event sparked significant attention on social media, leading one user to tag Boycott in a Twitter post seeking his views on England's performance.

Describing the team as "batting without brains," Boycott expressed dissatisfaction with England's unconventional approach. The comments were shared in response to a tweet from a user who sought Boycott's explanation for England's dismal show with the bat during their first innings.

Boycott retweeted the post and added, "Yes, it does, batting without brains. Chatting to my captain Mike Brearley.

It is worth noting that England's first innings ended on a disappointing note on the third day of the Test with the hosts getting bowled out for 325. After commencing the day at a steady 278/4, they shockingly lost six wickets in quick succession, handing Australia a comfortable 91-run lead in the first innings. The visitors are well and truly in control of the game with a 221-run lead and eight wickets in hand.

The prominent "Bazball", deemed unconventional by many, appeared to do more harm than good as key players, including England captain Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and Brook fell prey to short-length deliveries. On the other hand, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Jonny Bairstow were also dismissed despite having a promising start, further augmenting England's woes.
