Ashes 2023 | 'Words Have Consequences'- Nasser Hussain On Ollie Robinson's Ugly Send-Off To Khawaja

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has stated that seamer Ollie Robinson must develop a thicker skin as his verbal barrage against Australian batsman Usman Khawaja will have consequences.

Robinson knocked over centurion Khawaja on the 3rd morning of the Edgbaston Test and then proceeded to give him a send-off-laden with the choicest words.

Robinson's reaction has been met with mixed reactions, but the fast bowler can't care less. He was asked about the same in the post-day presentation, to which the Sussex seamer responded by saying that he doesn't care about what people think, adding that a high-profile series like the Ashes warrants such passion and aggression.

Reacting to the same, Hussain stated that Robinson needs to prepare for the same verbal barrage and hostility from the Aussies when he comes out to bat in this series.

The former also added that he is not a fan of a bowler reacting in that manner against a batsman, who had just scored a century.

"I spoke to Ben Stokes in Chennai about Ollie Robinson saying 'We are going to hammer Australia.' We almost did a Glenn McGrath. And then Ben just went 'Well, it's Ollie being Ollie. He is a confident cricketer.' You prefer it that way than in our era when the Aussies came and we were all timid and had mental scars and baggage. But words have consequences and when he goes out to bat, he is going to get it as well (smiles)." Hussain told Sky Sports.

"To give someone a send-off verbally when they're out, I never really like it. You've got him out, he has got a 140 (141). Do you really need to give him a send-off? And then double it down in the press conference? You say 'I got carried away in the heat of the moment.'" he added.

Khawaja's 141 lifted Australia to 386 in response to England's total of 393/8. At the time of writing, the hosts had moved on to 210 for 7 in their second dig, with an overall lead of 217.
