As the sun of T20 cricket rose above the horizon of the cricketing world, it brought with it a vibrant and thrilling transformation to the very art of batting. Like a sudden gust of wind, the T20 format swept across the landscape of the gentleman's game, breathing new life into the batsmen's arsenal, shattering the boundaries of convention, and painting the canvas of cricket with a bold palette of audacious strokes and unparalleled innovation.

In this listicle, we delve into the top five batting maestros who have conquered the T20 arena and amassed the most number of centuries in this thrilling format:

3. Rilee Rossouw: 9 centuries

A stylish top-order player with an elegant and authoritative drive, Rilee Rossouw has been a high-impact batter for South Africa in limited-overs cricket. Making his T20 debut on November 5, 2014, Rossouw has amassed as many as 9 centuries in the format.

The South African top-order batter shares the third spot in the tally with legends like Virat Kohli and David Warner.

Veteran Australian batter David Warner delivered a stunning performance for Sydney Thunder in their Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 clash against Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday, smashing an unbeaten 130 off 65 balls. His knock featured nine sixes and 11 fours and marked his ninth T20 century, levelling him with Virat Kohli and Rilee Rossouw on the list of players with the most T20 hundreds in all formats.

3. Virat Kohli: 9 centuries

Virat Kohli’s centuries in international cricket are the second-most by any player, behind the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who has 100. Kohli’s tons in ODIs are the record for the format. Only three Indians have scored more three-digit scores in Test matches than Kohli.

In T20 internationals, Virat Kohli scored only one century.

Overall, though, Virat Kohli has scored nine centuries in T20 cricket. Barring his solitary T20I ton for the Indian men’s cricket team, he also boasts of eight more in the Indian Premier League (IPL) while playing for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

2. Babar Azam: 11 centuries

Babar Azam is widely regarded as the finest all-format cricketer in the world today. While his exquisite prowess is rooted in the classical forms of the game, the talenyed virtuoso has evolved with the times, transmuting into a T20 legend through his elegant stroke play and captivating artistry.

Babar's bat has crafted ten majestic centuries and 76 enthralling fifties. Three of his tons have come while playing for Pakistan, while one has illuminated the stage of the PSL. With the trajectory of Babar's career soaring ever higher, it seems inevitable that this prodigious talent will grace the cricketing world with more centuries in the coming future, further solidifying his status as a true legend of the game.

1. Chris Gayle: 22 Centuries

Perched atop the summit of T20 cricket's pantheon, the force of nature known as the "Gayle Storm" has raged through the shorter format, leaving an ineffaceable mark of destruction and dominance in its wake. Tailor-made for his explosive prowess, the T20 arena has witnessed Gayle eclipse his peers in nearly every batting record, his relentless onslaughts unmatched in their ferocity. No matter the league or the stage, the mighty Jamaican has consistently emerged as the most devastating force, transcending the boundaries of mere statistics.

In a staggering 463 matches, Gayle has pulverized 1,056 gargantuan sixes, amassing a colossal 14,562 runs at an average of 36.22 and a strike rate of 144.75 with a highest scored of 175*. The southpaw stands alone in the T20 realm, the only cricketer to have plundered more than 14,000 runs and bludgeoned over 1,000 sixes.

With a record-shattering 22 centuries and 88 fifties to his name, the gulf between Gayle and the other luminaries on this list is nothing short of astronomical. The sheer magnitude of the Caribbean colossus's achievements renders it almost inconceivable that his records will ever be toppled, securing his legacy as the undisputed king of T20 cricket.
