Ajinkya Rahane is a Test stalwart from the heart and also from the essence of his gameplay. The KKR captain is essentially not a white-ball cricketer by forte yet his recent IPL 2025 exploits say otherwise.

Though Rahane overcame his white-ball demons this year, his red-ball exploits are one to be commended. Hence, let's take a look at some of the highest scores that Rahane bagged in Test Cricket.

5. 126 Runs vs Sri Lanka

Back on August 20, 2015, in the third innings of the Colombo Test at P Sara Oval, Rahane produced a determined 126 off 243 balls. With India looking to set up a big lead, he batted with great maturity and focus. 

His efforts alongside Murali Vijay's 82 helped India consolidate their position in a game that eventually led to a crucial win. This knock highlighted his temperament under pressure and his growing stature as India’s dependable middle-order batter, especially in overseas conditions.

4. 127 Runs vs South Africa 

On December 3, 2015, against a strong South African bowling unit, Rahane shone brightly in Delhi with a well-crafted 127 in the first innings. The knock came off 215 balls and included 11 fours and 4 sixes. His ability to rotate strike and attack at the right moments made this inning special. 

Coming in a low-scoring series where batting was difficult, Rahane’s century stood out alongside Virat Kohli's 44 and was instrumental in India setting up a match-winning lead. Notably, he followed this hundred with another unbeatable one in the second innings, implying his dominance again.

3. 132 Runs vs Sri Lanka 

Rahane showed his hunger for runs in subcontinent conditions with a fluent 132 against Sri Lanka at the SSC Ground in Colombo. Marking his third-highest score in Tests, back on August 3, 2017, facing 222 balls, he scored his runs with 14 fours, batting with composure and positive intent. 

His stumping dismissal was the only blemish in an otherwise dominating performance. Rahane’s hundred alongside Cheteshwar Pujara's ton and other notable contributions helped India build a strong 622 in the first innings, setting the tone for another commanding win away from home.

2. 147 Runs vs Australia 

One of Rahane’s finest overseas centuries came in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on December 26, 2014. He scored 147 in the first innings off just 171 balls at an impressive strike rate of 85.96. His innings were packed with 21 boundaries and showcased his attacking side against a quality Australian pace attack. 

The knock came at a crucial time when India needed stability and counter-attacking flair, and Rahane delivered both with confidence. After the Aussies' 530, India summed up 465 alongside Kohli's ton to close up the lead as the match ended in a draw.

1. 188 Runs vs New Zealand

Ajinkya Rahane’s highest Test score came against New Zealand at Indore in October 2016. Batting at No. 5, he played a marathon knock of 188 runs off 381 balls, spending over 500 minutes at the crease. He struck 18 fours and 4 sixes in a fluent yet patient display of batting. 

Rahane's partnership with Virat Kohli, who scored a double hundred, was pivotal in India posting a mammoth total. Rahane’s innings were a textbook example of building a long innings on a turning track, which eventually helped India clinch the match and the series.
