Afghanistan’s cricketing journey has been absolutelyphenomenal. From being underdogs to a force to be reckoned with in white-ball cricket, the Afghan have made their presence felt on the international stage.

While Afghan bowlers have always been match-winners, their batters have really upped their game in recent years and have rewritten history with massive totals. When they get going, it’s like a runaway train: unstoppable, fearless, and a nightmare for opposition bowlers.

Here’s a look at Afghanistan’s top five highest ODI totals:

5. 325/7 vs England – Lahore, February 26, 2025

In Champions Trophy 2025, Afghanistan showed they weren’t here to just make up the numbers. Ibrahim Zadran played the innings of his life, smashing a sensational 177 off 146 balls featuring 12 fours and six sixes: one of the best knocks ever seen in Afghan cricket history.

He held the innings together while Hashmatullah Shahidi (40), Azmatullah Omarzai (41), and Mohammad Nabi (40) played crucial supporting roles. Their total of 325/7 put the pressure squarely on England and with this performance, the Afghans once again showed that their batting lineup was no longer a weak link.

4. 331/9 vs Bangladesh – Chattogram, July 8, 2023

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran put on a show for the ages in Chattogram as the openers combined for one of Afghanistan’s greatest opening stands. Gurbaz was in beast mode, smashing 145 off 125 balls while Zadran’s controlled 100 off 119 complemented him perfectly.

The duo laid the foundation for a massive total, and despite a mini-collapse in the middle order, Afghanistan still managed to post 331/9. In response, Bangladesh had no answers as their chase fell apart like a house of cards and they handed Afghanistan a huge 142-run victory.

3. 333/5 vs Zimbabwe – Sharjah, February 9, 2018

If ever there was a game that showcased Afghanistan’s ability to dominate, this was it. On a flat Sharjah deck, their batters feasted, putting up a commanding 333/5. Rahmat Shah played a textbook ODI knock, anchoring the innings with a classy 114 off 110 balls.

But it was Najibullah Zadran’s late blitz that turned the heat up—his unbeaten 81 off just 51 balls took Afghanistan into overdrive in the final overs. Zimbabwe never really got going in the chase, crumbling under pressure as Rashid Khan and Co. wrapped things up with ease, securing a thumping 154-run victory.

2. 338 vs Ireland – Greater Noida, March 17, 2017

Afghanistan turned on the style against Ireland in a high-scoring affair with their batters going full throttle. Mohammad Shahzad set the tone with a quickfire 63, but it was Asghar Afghan who stole the show with a magnificent century (101 off 90). He played like a man possessed, finding boundaries at will and keeping the scoreboard ticking.

Rahmat Shah chipped in with a fluent 68, while Shafiqullah added the final flourish with a quickfire 35 off 17. Their 338 was more than enough, as Rashid Khan’s six-wicket haul ensured Ireland fell 34 runs short.

1. 339/6 vs Sri Lanka – Pallekele, February 9, 2024

Sri Lanka had piled up a mammoth 381/3, riding on a sensational double century from Pathum Nissanka. Chasing a colossal 382, Afghanistan found themselves languishing at 27/4 but Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi had other ideas. The duo scripted an unforgettable counterattack with Omarzai hammering an unbeaten 149 off 115 balls while Nabi played a staggering knock of 136 off 130.

Their 270-run partnership gave Sri Lanka a real scare but ultimately, the target was just a bridge too far. Even in defeat, Afghanistan showed their mettle and proved they could throw punches with the big boys.
