Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has backed Suryakumar Yadav to make his mark in all three formats of the game.

Currently, the explosive Indian ace is one of the best T20 batters in the world but Shastri believes that he could succeed in Test cricket as well.

Furthermore, the former World Cup winner has urged the Indian middle-order batter to bat at number five in the longest format of the game.

It will be interesting to see if the Indian management is willing to give Suryakumar a chance in the longest format of the game after the World Cup. The Men in Blue could certainly use someone like him in the middle-order to add some variety.

Rishabh Pant has had great success in Tests with his aggressive approach and there is no reason why Suryakumar cannot follow in his footsteps and make his mark in Tests.

Shastri claims that the Indian star could surprise many with his performances in Tests.

Speaking to Indian Express, Shastri said:

“I think he is a three-format player. I know they do not talk about him in Test cricket, but he is a three-format player. This guy can play Test cricket and I’ll tell you what, he can surprise a few. Send him there at number 5 and let him stir it up.”

India will be hoping to make it to the finals of the World Test Championship for the current cycle and they will need to win their remaining games in order to stand a chance of making it to the finals. Suryakumar could be a game changer for them.
