Pakistan Women, who outclassed the Sri Lankans in their final league match of the ongoing Women’s T20 Asia Cup, lost against the same opponents on the day when it mattered the most.

In the second semi-final of the tournament, the Bismah Maroof-led side fell a mere run short of their target, despite chasing a modest total.

After the match, the Pakistani skipper blamed her batters for their faltering response in the run-chase, which saw them crash out of the competition.

The Pakistan bowlers had restricted the Sri Lankan batters to just 122-6 off their 20 overs. Spinner Nashra Sandhu conceded just 17 runs off her four over spell, all while picking up three wickets in the innings.

Despite chasing a moderate total, the Pakistani batters repeatedly crumbled in their response. Skipper Maroof herself top scored for her side with a crafty 42, but could not prevent them from succumbing to a one-run defeat in the knockout fixture.

Reflecting on the defeat, the senior cricketer blamed her batters for not overcoming the Sri Lankan total. She said:

“We didn't bat well in the end. Their bowlers bowled well as well.”

Despite the defeat, Maroof stated that she was proud of her side’s turnaround in the tournament, considering their shock defeat to Thailand in one of their earlier games. The ‘Women in Green’ bounced back to reach the semi-final, and even defeated arch-rivals and tournament favorites India Women on their way.
