It required Chennai Super Kings their worst start to an Indian Premier League season to hand a debut to Shaik Rasheed. Not known for exposing rookies this early in an IPL season, the MS Dhoni-led franchise had to do it in an attempt to find a solution to prevailing batting woes.

Rasheed, who represents Andhra in domestic cricket, has been part of Super Kings since IPL 2023. Part of India’s U-19 World Cup-winning squad in the West Indies the previous year, the right-handed batter was sold for INR 20 lakh for the first two seasons before fetching INR 30 lakh during IPL 2025 auction.

For the unversed, Rasheed was India’s fourth-highest run-scorer during the U-19 World Cup three years ago. 201 runs across four innings had come at an average and strike rate of 50.25 and 65.90 respectively. Additionally, the second of his two half-centuries had come in a successful 190-run chase in the final against an English attack consisting of Rehan Ahmed and Jacob Bethell.

While the likes of Ahmed and Bethell have already graduated to the highest level, no Indian player from that batch has been able to earn a maiden national call-up. That being said, his U-19 World Cup teammates to have participated in the IPL are:

Angkrish Raghuvanshi – Kolkata Knight Riders

Part of Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL 2024 winning squad, Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been the most successful product to have emerged from that batch thus far. A regular for KKR now, the right-handed batter has scored 296 runs at a strike rate of 151.02 across 12 IPL innings.

Raj Angad Bawa – Punjab Kings & Mumbai Indians

Player of the Match in the U-19 final against England in North Sound, all-rounder Raj Angad Bawa represented Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians twice and once in 2022 and 2025 respectively. The left-handed batter had remained during IPL 2024 auction.

Rajvardhan Hangargekar – Chennai Super Kings & Lucknow Super Giants

Part of Super Kings even before Rasheed, pacer Rajvardhan Hangargekar was retained by them until the last season. Having picked three wickets in six overs across a couple of IPL 2023 matches, Hangargekar is yet to represent Lucknow Super Giants this season.

Yash Dhull – Delhi Capitals

One of the five captains to lead India to U-19 World Cup glory, Yash Dhull had scored 16 runs at a strike rate of 69.56 across three IPL 2023 innings for Delhi Capitals. Unsurprisingly, he was released by the franchise the following season and has failed to find a buyer since then.

Nishant Sindhu – Chennai Super Kings & Gujarat Titans

Notably, all-rounder Nishant Sindhu was Rasheed’s teammate at CSK in 2023. Unsold during IPL 2024 auction, the southpaw was bought by Gujarat Titans during IPL 2025 auction. One of the most capped players in domestic cricket among these names, Sindhu is yet to make an IPL debut.

Vicky Ostwal – Delhi Capitals

India U-19’s highest wicket-taker during the showpiece event in 2022, spinner Vicky Ostwal was part of DC’s squads in IPL 2023 and 2024 but didn’t get to play a match.

Harnoor Singh Pannu – Punjab Kings

Opening batter Harnoor Singh Pannu bagged a maiden IPL deal when PBKS bought him for INR 30 lakh for IPL 2025.
