Indian young sensation Shubman Gill took the cricketing world by storm on Friday night, helping Gujarat Titans register a clinical 62-run victory over Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2023 through a brutal 129-run knock. The promising Punjab batter has been sublime in the tournament, amassing 851 runs at an average of 60.79 and a blistering strike rate of 156.43.
Following his monstrous knock against the five-time champions, Gill received accolades from all corners of the world, including his teammate- Vijay Shankar. In the post-match presser, Shankar reckoned that his abilities to hit sixes at will and consistently rotate the strike make Gill one of the trickiest customers to bowl to.
As quoted by India Today, the experienced Tamil Nadu all-rounder also lauded Gill for his incredible game awareness and ability to exploit the gaps in the middle overs.
Here's what Shankar stated
"As a batter, he is able to do both. He can hit sixes as well as rotate the strike. His biggest strength is finding the gaps in the power-play. He can play the ball in the gaps and hit those boundaries whenever needed. He is someone with everything and knows when to do what. That’s a highlight of being a top player and shows how it is done."
The Titans are high on confidence after decimating Mumbai Indians in qualifier 2. Up next, they will take on four-time champions Chennai Super Kings in the tournament final on Sunday.
