England have called upon the services of 18-year-old leg-spinner, Rehan Ahmed, in a tactical move to counter Moeen Ali's vexing blistered finger issue for the upcoming second Test of The Ashes 2023 at the Lord’s on Wednesday.

Social media ablaze with Shane Warne's nostalgic praise of Rehan Ahmed

The veteran spinner’s performance was unfortunately marred during the first Test at Edgbaston which prompted the hosts to add the young prodigy to their Test squad.

Ahmed has an impressive resume which notably includes a sensational debut against Pakistan in Karachi last year. Grabbing 5-48 in the second innings, he was instrumental in securing an emphatic victory for England by eight wickets, leading to a clean sweep of the hosts in the series spanning three matches.

The cricket community is buzzing with excitement following the announcement of Ahmed's recall to the Test team, fuelled further by a nostalgic video making the rounds on social media. This throwback to 2017 captures a 13-year-old Ahmed in action, impressively bowling under the watchful gaze of the late spin maestro, Shane Warne.

In the clip, Warne can be heard lauding the young talent, making a prophetic statement that would soon become a reality.

“That’s awesome, man. Really, really good. I’m going to keep a close eye on you. I think I’m going to be commentating on you very soon. I think you will be playing first-class cricket by the age of 15,” exclaimed Warne.

True to Warne's prediction, Ahmed, at 18 years and 128 days, became the youngest debutant to bag a five-wicket haul in Test cricket. In doing so, he surpassed the record held by the current Australian Test captain, Pat Cummins, who achieved the same at 18 years and 193 days against South Africa in 2011.

Not only that, Ahmed also broke the record of the youngest player to represent England (18 years and 126 days) in men’s Test cricket, previously made by Brian Close (18 years and 149 days) in 1949.
