Wahab Riaz Lashes out at PCB's Selection Committee

Veteran Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz has lashed out at selectors for ignoring 30+ years by saying that performance should be the criteria for selection regardless of age.

Riaz has played 27 Tests, 91 ODIs, and 36 T20Is over the course of his international career with more than 200 wickets. The left-arm made his international debut in 2008 but has been out of the national side since 2020. Currently, he remains out of favour with the selection committee and team management. Despite this, Riaz remains optimistic about his chances of playing for Pakistan again and taking part in the 50-over World Cup scheduled to take place in India later this year.

Speaking to Hafiz Muhammad Imran on Salman Butt's YouTube channel, Riaz, who is currently playing for Khulna Tigers in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2023, slammed selectors by saying that players aged 30+ always get ignored in Pakistan. He opined that selectors should emphasize on the performance of the player and not his age.

"In Pakistan you should say goodbye to anyone above 30 because you are looking for someone young. You perform well and maintain fitness and if you aren't a burden on the team then you should definitely play. That's what my belief is."

Recently, Riaz became the second fast bowler after Dwayne Bravo to take 400 wickets in T20 cricket. He's in unbelievable form with the ball in BPL 2023, leading the bowling charts with 11 dismissals in five matches.

Earlier, Riaz had announced that he will retire from international cricket after the World Cup 2023 in India. But it remains to be seen whether he can make a comeback or not considering the depth of the current pool of fast bowlers in Pakistan.
