Indian batter Virat Kohli has now opened up on his free-flowing relationship with former wicketkeeper MS Dhoni.

Kohli revealed that he shared a great camaraderie with the former Indian captain and they shared a telepathic understanding on the pitch. Kohli and Dhoni helped India chase down massive targets during their time together with the Indian team and their running between the wickets garnered a lot of praise from the cricketing fraternity.

According to Kohli, the duo understood each other's game well and they knew what the situation demanded. Dhoni and Kohli bonded off the field as well.

When Kohli took over the captaincy duties from Dhoni, there was a smooth transition and that can be attributed to the relationship between the two players and the mutual respect they shared for each other.

Kohli also revealed (via NDTV) that Dhoni supported him significantly during the initial stages of his career and that aided his growth as a player.

"What I experienced with my friendship and relationship with MS Dhoni is very difficult to explain because it is based on understanding and trust.

"Within that faith and trust, then the relationship evolved outside the game as well. We spoke on many things, we understood each other's mindsets absolutely clearly and the support he provided in my early days was crucial for my growth. Later part of his career, I was always there for him and the transition between two captains, for the outside world it was quite like wow, we have never experienced this before but for us, it was quite normal.

"It was never like he was the captain or I was the captain. For me, he was always the same guy. His input was always valuable for me. For us, it was never about who was the captain, it has been a free-flowing relationship. It is something which I am going to cherish for the rest of my life."

The Indian batting maestro will now look to cement his place in cricketing folklore by helping his country win the T20 World Cup 2022 this year. India will begin their World Cup campaign against Pakistan on the 23rd of October, Sunday.
