In a remarkable turn of events, legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli has completed 25000 runs in international cricket.

The talisman achieved this phenomenal feat during India's second innings of the ongoing Test match against Australia in Delhi.

In this process, Kohli became only the sixth batter and the quickest-ever to attain the landmark in the history of the game.

Most runs in international cricket

  • Sachin Tendulkar: 34357 runs in 782 innings
  • Kumar Sangakkara: 28016 runs in 666 innings
  • Ricky Ponting: 27483 runs in 668 innings
  • Mahela Jayawardene: 25957 runs in 725 innings
  • Jacques Kallis: 25534 runs in 617 innings
  • Virat Kohli: 25003 runs in 549 innings

Kohli, who has had a torrid time with the bat in Test cricket of late, had two decent outings on a turning track, where a majority of the batters from both sides failed to flourish.

Despite managing 64 runs across two innings, the 34-year-old looked comfortable during the most part of his stay in the middle.

Although he looked determined to bat long in the first innings, a controversial decision from the on-field umpire Nitin Menon put an abrupt end to his 44-run knock in the first innings.

Meanwhile, chasing 115, India are well on the course for a victory, being placed at 87 for three in 21 overs.
