Australia's dynamic duo of Steve Smith and David Warner have received the backing of their teammate Usman Khawaja for the infamous 2018 ball-tampering saga in South Africa.

The ghosts of that controversial tour might be coming back to haunt them as the Proteas will reach the Aussie shores to play a three-match Test series. While the series will be played in the backdrop of Sandpaper gate, there would a lot more these two would want to prove.

Khawaja who has cemented his place in the side, will be keen to prove his metal once again against a formidable setup. The left-hander while backing his teammates claimed that time has helped them move on from the hard-time.

"It honestly hasn't been and I'm being genuine. It's because time heals all wounds. The guys have come so far from there, both as individual players, but also as a team.

"Everyone's got so many different things going on in their life from where they were four years ago. That actually gave guys a lot of perspective. Australian cricket, both as a whole and as individual as players, we were probably at rock bottom right there."

Australia's first Test against South Africa begins on 17th December with first game at Brisbane.
