It has been 16 years since the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) last defeated the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the famous M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

It was the first season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 and that was the last time RCB tasted success at MS Dhoni's backyard - Chepauk Stadium.

Dravid's gritty knock helps RCB post 126

On a slow and sluggish surface, RCB won the toss and they elected to bat first. At first, the decision to bat looked baffling since the RCB top-order failed to put up a fight against the CSK bowlers.

Even a young Virat Kohli failed to deliver the goods as the Bengaluru team lost 3 wickets in quick successions. However, captain Rahul Dravid stood tall and batted with grit and determination to steer his side out of a precarious situation.

He found the odd boundaries and scored a crucial 39-ball 47 as the RCB side managed to post a modest 126 on the board. Albie Morkel was the pick of the bowlers for CSK, picking up 4 for 32 in 4 overs.

Anil Kumble weaves his magic to outclass CSK

RCB needed an inspiration to win the contest and they got that through the veteran, Anil Kumble. Contrary to RCB, CSK batters were off to a great start, with 60 runs being scored without losing a wicket.

However, when Kumble dismissed Parthiv Patel for 24, it triggered a collapse as the remaining batters succumbed under pressure. Kumble also got the prized wicket of the dangerous Stephen Fleming, as RCB got back in the contest. CSK captain, MS Dhoni failed to put up a fight and the Yellow Army fell well short of the target and lost the match by 14 runs.

Anil Kumble was awarded the Player of the Match, for having match-winning figures of 3/14.
