England all-rounder Sam Curran thinks a win against Australia will put them in a strong position in the T20 World Cup 2022.

The English team secured a thumping win by five wickets over Afghanistan in their T20 WC opener.

Batting first, Curran led the team from the front to finish with figures of 5/10 to restrict Afghanistan to 112. In this process, he became the first Englishman to register a five wicket haul in T20 World Cups.

In reply, England managed to chase down the total with 11 balls to spare, and Liam Livingstone as the top contributor with unbeaten 29.

Although England will meet Ireland in their next fixture on Wednesday, it's the Australia clash on Friday, which has kept Curran interested.

“We’ve seen the way they (Ireland) played in the qualifiers, they’re obviously a very dangerous team with some match-winners in there as well,” the 24-year-old told reporters.

“But like you said, there’s no hiding that Friday is going to be a pretty epic game against Australia, at the MCG, which I’m sure will be an incredible experience for all of us.

“And hopefully we can go into that game having won on Wednesday. And like you said, if we win (on Friday) that will obviously be great for us and I guess might put the Aussies in a tricky position.”

Earlier this month, England registered a 2-0 series victory against Australia and will be upbeat about their abilities.

It will be interesting to see if the Aaron Finch-led side can get back their T20 WC campaign back on track after facing a loss against New Zealand as well.
