Team India fell to a 10-wicket larruping at the Adelaide Oval against England and crashed out of the T20 World Cup 2022 in the semi-final.

The ‘Men in Blue’ batters piled up 168-6, largely owing to Hardik Pandya’s late blitz and Virat Kohli’s anchoring knock. However, the bowlers failed to take a single wicket between themselves, while English openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales completed the demolition job within 16 overs of their response.

Ex-selector slams team management for ignoring Yuzvendra Chahal

Ace spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was part of the touring Indian party for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. However, the cricketer was not selected for the starting XI in any of the games, despite holding a notable track record with the ball in the format.

Former India selector Sarandeep Singh has criticised the team management for Chahal’s repeated exclusion, and even cited it as one of the reasons for India’s semi-final exit from the tournament.

After the match, Singh claimed that ignoring Chahal was a big mistake by the team management, considering how England’s wrist spinners performed in the semi-final. He also pointed out the extended omission of Rishabh Pant from the team, who played just one match in the group stage before the semi-final.

While speaking with the PTI, he said:

“One of the team’s biggest mistakes was to not play Yuzvendra Chahal in the entire tournament especially today. You saw how effective England’s wrist spinners were. Not playing Rishabh Pant in the league stage also baffled me.”
