On Saturday, star all-rounder Marcus Stoinis was ruled out of the third ODI against New Zealand due to a lower level side strain. Meanwhile, David Warner has been released from the squad to get some much needed rest ahead of the tough schedule that lies ahead.

Stoinis bowled just three overs in the second ODI, and played only six deliveries, in a game that the Aussies comfortably won by 113 runs.

"Stoinis will undergo his rehabilitation in Perth leading into the tour of India," a three-game T20I series, as said in a statement released by Cricket Australia.

Nathan Ellis, who has impressed everyone in a short span of time has been drafted in as a replacement. Stoinis is the second all-rounder in recent times after Mitchell Marsh to have suffered an injury. Marsh was ruled out of the Zimbabwe series after getting his ankle injured.

With David Warner out of the final ODI as well, Australia will have a new opening partner to accompany Aaron Finch, who will retire from ODIs after the final game of the series.
