Former Australian opener, Matthew Hayden, has been appointed as Pakistan's new mentor ahead of the T20 World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Friday.

This is not going to be Hayden's first stint with the Asian team. Last year he was named as the batting consultant of the Pakistan side before the T20 World Cup kicked off in UAE. However, the Australian great stepped down from his position after Pakistan's exit in the semi-finals at the hands of Australia.

The 50-year-old will join the side in Brisbane, the day Pakistan arrive Down Under after competing in the tri-nation series, which involves New Zealand and Bangladesh.

On his appointment, PCB Chairman, Ramiz Raja said:

"I welcome back Matthew Hayden back in Pakistan colours. He is a proven performer with his credentials acknowledged and recognised all over the world.

He brings with him wealth of knowledge about Australia conditions, and I am confident his involvement Will significantly benefit our extremely talented cricketers for the World Cup and future tours Down Under."

Pakistan will kick-start their World Cup campaign against arch-rivals India on October 23.
