Recently, veteran Australian batter Steve Smith exhibited his versatility as a batter, smashing a flamboyant hundred for Sydney Sixers in the ongoing Big Bash League.

Opening the batting, Smith hammered 101 runs off just 56 balls, playing a crucial role in Sixers' commanding victory over the Strikers.

However, Smith could play only one game in the T20 World Cup on home soil. With Mitchell Marsh slotted at three, Smith's T20I future doesn't look promising.

Meanwhile, the talismanic batter has opened up on his T20I ambitions. Besides revealing his eagerness to open in T20Is, the 33-year-old also admitted to concentrating more on performing on the field rather than pondering over his T20I comeback.

Here's what Smith stated

"I'm not reading too much into it. I am just going out and playing and doing my best. We will wait and see what the future holds, it's a while until the next T20 international anyway,

"I like it up top, who wouldn't want to open in T20 cricket? Two men out, it gives yourself a chance to just play the ball as you see it early on. And then once the fielders go out you've got yourself in and have the chance to play your shots. It's a place I enjoy batting. I did it a couple of times in the IPL and went OK."
