Standing There and Doing Nothing: Simon Doull Baffled with Sarfaraz Ahmed

Former New Zealand cricketer , Simon Doull, did not hold back in his criticism of Quetta Gladiators skipper, Sarfaraz Ahmed, during their match against Karachi Kings on Monday.

While commentating during the Kings' innings, Doull expressed his displeasure with the fielding strategies employed by Sarfaraz, stating that the captain appeared to be "standing there and doing nothing."

Furthermore, the Kiwi veteran expressed his opinion that the Pakistan talisman’s lack of form in batting was reflected in his captaincy, as he said it might be time for a "strategic retirement" from the sport.

Sarfaraz's struggles continued when he injured his finger trying to stop a thunderbolt delivery from Naseem Shah during the game. Despite his injury, he went on to bat when Quetta Gladiators were five wickets down, but his performance left much to be desired.

Doull also compared Sarfaraz's performance to that of Martin Guptill, who was playing an anchor role until he changed gears and played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 86 runs, thus helping the Gladiators secure only their second win of the tournament.

Notably, both their wins have come against Imad Wasim-led Karachi Kings.

The Gladiators find themselves in the depths of despair at the bottom of the PSL 2020 points table, having only secured two victories and suffering six losses out of eight games played.

It seems highly improbable that the team will qualify for the playoffs, as their prospects of doing so are virtually non-existent, and they can only cling to hope through a miracle.

The Sarfaraz-led side will take on Peshawar Zalmi, headed by Babar Azam, in their penultimate league game, scheduled for Wednesday, March 8, in Rawalpindi.
