Dunith Wellalage and Dhananjaya Lakshan recalled for ODI series vs Afghanistan

Sri Lanka are preparing to take on Afghanistan in a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series commencing November 25. All matches of the ODI series will be held at the Pallekele International Stadium.

According to Daily News, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have zeroed in on a 16-man squad for the series, which will see the return of bowling all-rounders Dhananjaya Lakshan and Dunith Wellalage.

Wellalage performed exceptionally well in the ICC Under-19 World Cup, and impressed all in ODIs against the visiting Australia side.

Chief Selector, Pramodya Wickramasinghe has omitted two players from the Lanka's T20 World Cup 2022 squad — Chamika Karunaratne and Danushka Gunathilaka.

​The side will be captained by Dasun Shanaka and will have the likes of Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dinesh Chandimal,Wanindu Hasaranga, and Lahiru Kumara to bank upon.

Youngsters like Maheesh Theekshana, Pramod Madushan, Lakshan, and Wellalage make the team composition quite exciting. 

The ODI squad is still awaiting clearance from the Sri Lankan Sports Minister.

Dasun Shanaka (c), Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dinesh Chandimal, Ashen Bandara, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Dananjaya Lakshan, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara, Pramod Madushan and Asitha Fernando.
