After leading Sunrisers Eastern Cape to glory in the inaugural edition of the SA20 League, South African superstar batter Aiden Markram has given the reigns of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023).

With the tournament just around the corner, all teams have started preparing and spending hard yards in the pre-season camps. Captain Markram has also commenced chalking his plans for the upcoming edition of the league.

While talking to TOI, the South African said he wants to create an environment in the SRH dressing room where every player can express themselves and be themselves.

Markram also expressed a desire to look for characters in the team who have the nerves to tackle pressure in the high-octane games that IPL offers. He further stated that the entire SRH squad has a few characters he wants, and he is looking forward to working with them in his debut season as an IPL captain.

Last season, when the Sunrisers finished at the bottom of the points table, the 28-year-old batter was one the rare cricketers to perform exceptionally for the franchise. He amassed 381 runs from 14 matches at a staggering average of 47.63 with a strike rate of 139.05. Apart from that, he also bowled some handy overs of his off-break.

In 2022, the Proteas batter was bought by the Sunrisers franchise for a whopping INR 2.6 crore, before he was retained for the subsequent IPL season.

After a not-so-promising season last year, the team management moved on from the legendary Kiwi batter Kane Williamson and gave the captain's hat to the Under-19 World Cup-winning Proteas.

Markram's Hyderabad will begin their campaign on April 2 with the fixture against Rajasthan Royals. The one-time champions have a few cricketers in their arsenal who can become triumph cards for the captain; however, it will highly depend on how the captain uses his deck of cards.
