Simon Doull thinks Sanju Samson deserves a long rope like Rishabh Pant

One hotly-talked-about topic in Indian cricketing circles is the Rishabh Pant-Sanju Samson debate.

Pant, an already established name in Tests, has failed to rekindle his performances in the limited-overs. On the other hand, Samson finds it tough to get a consistent run despite having shown glimpses of his talent in limited chances.

Pant, from 95 ODIs and T20Is combined, has scored 1,842 runs, including eight fifties and one hundred, while Samson, from 27 appearances for India, has amassed 626 runs at a better ODI average.

Now, former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull has jumped into the discussion. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Doull suggested that Samson deserved a longer run in the XI.

Here's what Doull stated

"Rishabh Pant's record is a decent sample size. He has played just under 30 games and only averages 35, the strike rate is good. But Sanju in 11 games is averaging 60 something. And I don't think he is any less of a wicketkeeper. I jut think he deserves an opportunity as well."

Meanwhile, India will take on New Zealand in the third and final ODI of the series in Christchurch on Wednesday.
