Australian domestic side New South Wales (NSW) have announced the immediate sacking of head coach Phil Jaques

Former Australian cricketer Jaques' existing contract was due to end this season after being at the helm of affairs since the 2018-19 season. But following the side's disastrous start in both the Sheffield Shield and One-Day Cup, the board decided to part ways with him immediately.

NSW are languishing at the bottom of the points table in both competitions. Veteran coach Greg Shipperd has been named as the interim coach. The 66-year-old has worked with sides like Tasmania and Victoria, winning multiple Sheffield Shield trophies during his tenures.

Cricket NSW chief of cricket performance Greg Mail thanked Jaques for his services in a statement and welcomed Shipperd into the NSW family.

Here's what Mail stated

"On behalf of all at Cricket NSW I’d like to thank Phil for his contribution to cricket in NSW as both a player and coach. Phil is an immensely passionate NSW person and has given his all in his time as head coach, but we feel that now is the right time to make a change. We wish Phil well in his future endeavours,

"Greg Shipperd’s cricket acumen and his coaching record is well renowned, and we are very pleased that he has agreed to guide our Blues program while we take the time to understand our next move."
