'Rishabh Pant Will Be Out For One Or Two Years,' Updates Saurav Ganguly

Indian virtuoso wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant underwent a horrible accident last December, after which he was hospitalised and is still recovering from his injuries. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been giving timely briefs on the 25-year-old's fitness, but it is still unclear when he will return to the field.

Pant, who last played for India on the tour of Bangladesh, using his social media platforms, updated that he has started walking but using walking pods.

Meanwhile, the former India captain and ex-BCCI Chairperson, Sourav Ganguly - who recently joined the Delhi Capitals camp as the Director of Cricket - revealed that he is in regular touch with the franchise's captain. Furthermore, he stated that Pant would be out of action for at least a year or two.

"I spoke to him a couple of times. Obviously he is going through a tough period, through injuries and surgeries and I wish him well. In a year’s time or may be in a couple of years’ time, he will be back playing for India," Ganguly told PTI.

If Ganguly is correct, then Delhi and Team India will be in deep waters, as a player of Pant's calibre can't be replaced overnight. Moreover, with three ICC events in a year, it won't be less than a headache for the team management.

The Delhi-based franchise is yet to announce their skipper after the regular got ruled out. The obvious choice for captaincy has to be Australia megastar David Warner. However, the southpaw got his reputation hampered when he got involved in the Sandpaper Gate, but he was cleared by Cricket Australia (CA) to lead a foreign team.

Commenting on DC's captaincy choice, Ganguly said:

"We still need a bit of time to figure out. The next camp starts before IPL. It is difficult to get all the players together for the amount of cricket they play. There are four or five who are playing Irani Trophy. Sarfaraz has an injured finger and it’s not a broken finger. He should be okay for the IPL."

If not Warner, Delhi are limited to a couple of options as far as captaincy is concerned. India Under-19 World Cup-winning skipper Prithvi Shaw and India regular Axar Patel are others who can be looked at as leaders.
