Indian batter KL Rahul sustained a thigh injury while fielding for the Lucknow Super Giants in the recently-concluded IPL 2023 season. Owing to this, the cricketer missed out on India’s WTC final clash against Australia, and is set to miss the upcoming tour of West Indies in July.

As of now, Rahul has made a comeback into the gym and will soon be seen gracing the nets. Several reports state that the 31-year-old might attain full recovery in the coming days and make it to India’s squads for the much-awaited Asia Cup and World Cup 2023 events.

However, if the dynamic wicketkeeper-batter fails to regain his fitness on time, cricketer-turned-commentator Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has named his replacement, and its not Sanju Samson or Ishan Kishan.

Sivaramakrishnan believes KL Rahul should play domestic cricket

Sivaramakrishnan recently took to Twitter and stated that KL Rahul needs to play domestic cricket in order to asses his match fitness and batting form before making an international return. Taking to microblogging site, he wrote:

"He (KL Rahul) should be made to play domestic cricket to assess his match fitness and batting form. Getting back into the Indian team should not be so easy, you bat in the nets and ready for international competition."

While Rahul is expected to start his training in a couple of weeks, the former Indian cricketer claimed that rising Indian star Sai Sudharsan should be considered as his potential replacement in the team.

Sudharsan has been in scintillating touch with the bat off late, scoring runs in heap for Kovai Kings in TNPL as well as for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023. Moreover, the left-handed batter averages above 60 in List A cricket, with three tons and two half-centuries to his name.
